April Davis (Photographer)
I come from a family of artists and scientists, which I suppose is a
somewhat odd combination, but I think it's a good one. I feel like
it's given me a unique perspective on the things around me. I've
learned to see what is there and to turn it into something else by
changing the order of things, or the way it is seen. With my
photography I try to capture the mystery and mood of a place that has
been abandoned. To show the things that are left behind to rot and
share the perplexity of their story. I try to find the beauty amongst
the decay, searching for the ways life continues on even though it
appears to be rotting away.
I've always done some sort of art my entire life. I've never really
stuck to one thing because I enjoy trying different techniques and
mediums. In addition to my photography I enjoy working with mixed
media pieces, painting and found metal sculptures. I spend most of my
free time traipsing about abandoned buildings, playing with power
tools, hiking with my awesome dogs and reading. Usually not all at the
same time, but I like to multitask where I can.
