What is it about pink that makes you feel so damn good?  Well, at least me?! Not just any pink though!  For me, the brighter the better.  Hot pink represents femininity in a powerful, edgy, and bold manner! It screams, "I'm here. I'm wild. I'm fun. I wanna play."  Hot pink makes me feel....well....like a GIRL BEAST capable of accomplishing anything and everything!  RAWR!!! <3

Every once in a blue moon Sugar opens it's doors up to the male species.  I'm not a raging feminist 360 days of year! ;)   This summer I had the pleasure of producing and hosting Sugar's first out state show in my home state of Washington in hopes of shining some light on the up and coming and rising stars of Seattle and surrounding cities.  Being from Tacoma I knew that there was a heavy hip hop and rap scene so we had our first ever Sugar Rap Contest.   I got the chance to witness a lot of incredibly talented contenders, but to my great surprise and delight the rapper to take the First Place Prize was 253's very own Yung Zakk.  Zakk won some very awesome prizes from our Sugar Does Seattle sponsors, Two In the Shirt, Sound Sessions with DJ Hyphen, A Real Grip, Shocking Goat, Seaspot Magazine, MissCaseyCarter.com, and more.

I recently got the chance to catch up with our young Northwest rap prodigy, Yung Zakk, to find out what's in store for the future, how Sugar helped, and what drives and inspires this rising star.

Sugar Pie:  It's been 5 months since you won the Sugar Does Seattle Rap Contest, what's been going on since then?

Yung Zakk:  Ive  just finished my 1st mixtape "NICE GUYS FINISH LAST" avalible Dec 25th on misscaseycarter.com     also avalible on hotnewhiphop.com/yungzakk. In addition Ive completed few videos that are in the prosses of being edited. Ive also started working on my next project with J ROC (artist / producer of Track Addictz  from tac). I have spoken with SeaSpot Media Group about some things that have been going on with me and I will be doing a follow up interview with them some time soon.
Sugar Pie:  Do you feel like winning the contest helped your career?  Explain.

Yung Zakk:  Very much so. Winning the contest has opened alot of doors for me allowing me to meet people in fashion, media, blogs, music, photography, and more. All these people have created a huge marketing avanue for me.

Sugar Pie:  Who is Yung Zakk?

Yung Zakk:  Im an artists out of Tacoma, Washington. Ive been making music for a few years now and I'm just starting to put it all together. I believe persistence is key and that if u never stop you'll  the last one standing. I just want to make good music and represent the NW well.

MEET SUGAR'S VERY OWN MEN IN SHINING ARMOR OR TOOL BELTS! ;)

Picture
Today was an amazing day!!!  Kellie aka the Blond Bombshell and I met in Parkland to see our trusty tour bus, Toots!  We brought along some of our favorite incredibly talented men......Garret, Martin, & Tom who will be helping us get the interior of Toots in shape and fit for our Sugar Dream Team!  Garret is a childhood friend of mine, my school obsession, and an incredibly talented electrician.  He will be making it possible for us to use our laptops on the bus, have a refrigerator, microwave, disco ball or anything else needing power!  I'm super stoked to be working with one of my favorite people on this planet!  Martin and Tom are good friends of Kellie's who will be working on the carpentry and design of the bus interior!  Super excited to see them at work in their craft!  Below is a rough CAD illustration I made on how we'd like the interior to be set up!  If you have any great design ideas or suggestions please let me know!!!!

There's something incredibly enticing that I find about rainbows.  Maybe it's the fact that they're colorful, bright, fun, & whimsical! Or maybe it's the fact that I'm the biggest fag hag and they represent the gays I love.  Who really knows?  And who really cares?  Below is a little bit of my Rainbow Inspiration!  Enjoy a la Rainbow Style! ;*

HIV Powerful. by Sugar Pie

I first came across KC Brown on Facebook.  I met him through my good friend Danny the Tranny’s page and we learned we had a few other mutual friends in common.  This made total sense to me seeing how KC had an off keel sense of humor and seemed to be loud and boisterous like everyone else in my tight knit clan.  Not only that, KC’s presence and energy radiated so strongly off my computer screen he took me aback.  I knew he was special and a very powerful being right then and there.  I could feel his smile and positive energy just by reading his posts.  He always left me feeling jovial and inspired.  I soon discovered that KC was HIV positive.  How could a man so enthralled by life be facing such a great and challenging battle in life?  KC has since decided to use his life as a sort of example for others facing the challenge of living with HIV.  Read about his quest to create awareness, learn about his struggles, and be inspired by his strength and unwillingness to sit and be quiet.  This is K.C. Brown founder of My HIV, a place to share and inspire.

Sugar Pie:  So tell me what is your purpose for you campaign and what are you hoping to accomplish?

KC:  My purpose is to spread awareness and not HIV!  The more people I can reach, the better.  Hopefully, through time, patience and daily dedication, I will change the stigma with HIV.  That way others in the future will not have to live in shame or guilt because of their HIV diagnosis.

Sugar Pie:  As of now, you’re just providing a forum for HIV infected individuals, do you plan on taking your project to a higher level?

KC: I definitely would like to!  I know that the challenge to change the stigma with HIV is a great challenge to accomplish, But I’m dedicated and prepared mentally for the challenge!  Once I feel that the stigma is changing or changed, I definitely want to take the awareness higher.  I’m not sure exactly what that entails, but I know I have dreams and visions of having great people of power speak about my cause.  As cheesy as it may sound, I’ve had thoughts about Oprah speaking about HIV and my cause to change the stigma.

Sugar Pie: How long have you been infected?

KC:  I found out in August of 2003.  According to my 'numbers' at that time, the doctor said I was probably infected a couple years prior (2001).  Based on that, I have an idea of who infected me due to unprotected sex.

So as you all may know the Sugar team plans on taking the road this January with the launch of Sugar Does America!!!  We are all super stoked and have soooo much to do to plan and prepare!   First things first, in order to make this happen we needed a bus!!!  And to my surprise I found the absolute perfect fixer upper on Craigslist!  Woohooo!  This old girl has the perfect dose of character to act as the chariot for the Sugar Royalty aka the Sugar Dream Team!  She's a 1973 city bus, and I'm sure she holds all kinds of stories and history.  We're told she runs like a Cadillac!  We'll see for ourselves this Friday!!!

Only problem is.....look at her!!! This girl has seen some drama in her day!  Help us pimp the Sugar Mobile out and prepare her for a year on the road!    We have plans of converting her engine into a biodiesel engine, so we can help save the earth and conserve.  We're also looking for sponsors to help us get the interior and exterior of this bad girl in shape!!!  If you or your company would like to take part in Sugar history and assist in the revamping of the "Sugar Mobile", please contact timmery@1981collection.com for sponsorship information and details!!!

Stay tuned to watch the transformation of the Sugar Mobile!

Love and smiles,

"Sugar Pie"

Pitter Patter (Causes We Love) Nakate Project

The Nakate Project focuses on three concepts: sustainability, localization and empowerment.

First, we chose the women that enter our program by discussing three things with our team on the ground: 1. Is the woman strong enough to begin her own business without our program? Is she physically able to do other kinds of labor? 2. If she does do other kinds of labor, are her options limited to kinds of labor that will harm her? For example, in Kakooge, Uganda, two of the only options for work for hire involve prostitution, and hard, back-breaking manual labor. 3. Is she willing to do the program "our" way, so to speak. Will she take the business training we provide? Will she work to save money? Will she invest that money into a business such as a vegetable stand, a shoe business, etc.

I love all things up and coming.  I live for edge.  Fashion is my soul. Art is my escape. Music runs through my veins.  Underground is where it's at, and I plan on making my mark and taking the passionate with me. T-A-K-E-O-V-E-R.

Hair Stylist and Make Up Artist by day, carnival freak show by night. my official title is Lead Hair Stylist for The Sugar Art And Fashion Show but in addition to beauty i also have a wide array of verbiage to offer.
WARNING: blogs may contain strong perverse violence/gore and sexuality, language and drug content. also glitter.

Music & Art are essential to keep me happy. A lot of what I post will revolve around staying happy & healthy while having fun. Art is good for the soul.

Where mainstream becomes lamestream, I opt out.  I believe that that fashion forward = constant and relentless reinvention.  The greatest masterworks of art, beauty, and entertainment  have one thing in common, and that is:  they are not common.  The good stuff doesn't knock at your door, you have to go find it, and it's hiding in the spirits of people...

The alphabet is my comfort zone and music is my passion. Glitter, leather, and lace all make me feel at home. I sleep best when out on the open road; Chaos is my lifestyle and intend to keep it this way.

Air is what moves me. The Sun is my energy. the wind is my guide. I only move forward.  Love is my answer to everything.  I will change the world with a simple smile. My mind never stops thinking, my heart will never stop loving, my eyes will never stop from noticing, and my body will not rest until I see the change in the world that I want to see.
